Peter and Becke spent the afternoon at the Fraser Valley Wedding Festival, showcasing the Hazelnut Inn. They set up the model we fabricated to help us and our contractors visualize the Inn in its early stages of building.
Saturday journey
Each Saturday, I travel about twenty miles to visit and lunch with my dad, who lives in a care home in a neighbouring town. I look forward to the visits but need to be in a calm frame of mind, well separated from my typical busy day. My dad is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, and his world is getting smaller with each visit. Thankfully, he still recognizes us and is happy and content. To prepare for my visits, I don’t rush down the freeway but rather take the backroads, using the time to enjoy the scenery and calm myself. I reflect on a lifetime of wonderful memories. By dwelling on those countless happy moments and experiences with my dad, I am ready for quality time with him. When I am with him, those memories are often recounted and bring him (and me) joy. On the way home, I retrace my backroad journey towards home, processing our time together. The beautiful scenery grounds my journey back to everyday life.
Back to our roots
While our construction photos may give a glimpse of the grandeur of the Under Hill Suite interior, physically being in the space is already overwhelming. Although the massive twisted roots and giant boulders loom overhead, the suite feels roomy and spacious. This is the view towards the soaker tub area which is tucked into a corner. The work lights are harsh and glaring but tucked behind the roots is space for hundreds of warm twinkling lights and fancy leaded glass light fixtures. The rich paint and glazed finishes will combine with colourful ceramic tiles, throw rugs and luxurious draperies and other decor to make this space truly unique in all the world. The sculpting crew made great progress today and we estimate the bulk of the roots and dirt work should be finished next week. Stay tuned…
