It is easier and quicker to fabricate the frames horizontally and make things perfectly square. Once the basic fabrication is finished, it is time to lift the frames and fasten them to the custom-welded steel pallets. Next up, we’ll begin welding on the pencil rod armatures. By the end of next week, all of the current frames will be ready for diamond lath. Then we can clear the shop and we can begin the last batch of frames for this giant project. Stay tuned…
Back to our roots
Inside, on the ceiling of the Under Hill Suite, the massive roots radiate out from the giant tree that ‘grows’ outside on the roof. By the end of this week they will be fully sculpted and the crew should be on to the ‘dirt’ in-between. Our concerns this might feel oppressive were unfounded for it feels cavernous and roomy. Once our painters start laying on the warm colours and glazes it will feel magical without a doubt. Stay tuned for more rapid progress…
Wall to wall frames
Neal and Keith have been busy and the shop and yard are wall to wall with welded steel frames. These will eventually be the armatures for a second large wall for NEB’s Fun World. Over the last weeks and into a good chunk of November we will continue welding these frames and the pallets that will hold them for fabrication and shipping. When they are complete we’ll drag them back into the shop, attach the lath and then hand sculpt them to make them ready for paint. It is quite the process to make sure everything will fit together perfectly when they get to Ontario later in the spring. Stay tuned to watch the magic happen…
