ROOF IS ON!

Today was another milestone for the house project. The crew from Penfold's Roofing nailed on the last of the shingles and ridgecap to finish the roof! They did a marvelous job! The eyebrows flow beautifully into the other portions of the roof. Everything lines up perfectly. We will confidently live under this long, long lasting roof with complete peace of mind. It is made from recycled rubber tires and carries a fifty year, transferrable warrantee.

Wired!

The electricians have been busy for days, nailing up boxes, drilling holes, pulling tons of wire. Janis and I have been busy marking out locations for every light, switch and plug we may need, trying to think of everything we will need. It involved many decisions as we went from room to room marking everything out.

Extension cords will be a thing of the past in the new house.

Coloring it our way

I think just about eveyone who sees our new house realizes it is intensely personal. Janis and I are building a dream we have held for almost two decades. We are building it for ourselves and no one else. The house will reflect our personal tastes in every respect. It is our happy place.

Janis & I have been mulling colors for the house and trim for some time. I tend to favor earth tones while Janis loves over the top colors. After much discussion and the painting of many samples we've settled on a combination of both of our tastes. The roof of the house is dark brown, the wndow frames chocolate with the facia and other trim a rich dark brown with lighter highlights peeking through. The plasterwork will be a warm tan with aged edges. The rock work will be purple and blue with dark brown and warm white speckles, the cool colors playing opposite to the warm tones above.

Today the painting crew did the first two sections of the stone work with the bright hues. They will be toned down and unified slightly as we add the dark and light speckles and dark grey grout lines.

But all of these tones will be eclipsed by the house trim where things will start to sparkle. Eight inch wide vertical boards will be applied every eight feet or so. Horzontal trim will circle the house about five feet above the rockwork. This same woodgrained, trim will border all windows and doors. And into this dark stained trim we will route thousands of layered hearts that will be painted marvelous shades of bright pink.

Like the giant trees, curved rooflines, massive round windows, vaulted ceilings and a whole lot of other over the top features of the house, the bright colors simply make us laugh. This is way more fun that we've had in a long, long time. Soon we will get to live in the dream.
