Spray foam magic

Colin and Ryan from Element Spray Foam are now into the living/dining room area of thr house, the last area to recieve the spray foam insulation. It is also the highest area in the house with the underside of the roof reaching up to just over twenty-two feet. It is a trick job that requires a lot of patience and attention to detail. This morning I snuck into the worksite to grab a few pictures of the process. In the first picture Colin is spraying on the first of three layers to bring the insulation to R40. The closed cell spray foam also acts as a vapor barrier meaning this is one tight house!

Ryan and Colin both take turn spraying the foam. If they aren't spraying then they are assisting, often holding the heavy hose to make it easier for the person on the business end of the hose.

To get a better persepective of today's job I went back downstairs and took this picture to show how high they really were and to also to show the complexity and difficulty of the job at hand.

The house has gotten a whole lot more comfortable and quiet in the last while as the spray foam has been applied. Thanks to the Element Spray Foam team for a great job so far.

Perfect morning

We've been blessed with the perfect summer to build our new house. Spring was wet and although not enjoyable it was the perfect weather to put in and pack the huge amounts of fill we needed. As we started in on the house the weather turned dry and warm. The summer weather continued into September as well allowing us to finish our work on the outside of the house.

Now the weather is cooling, still nice and warm in the daytime, but not until the morning fog burns off. This morning as I came out to the shop the vista was surreal with the fog obscuring the bottom of the mountain. The sky was clear and blue.  I snapped this picture from my studio deck. 

This will be the very same view we will get to enjoy from the new house patio in a few short months. It will be living the dream.

LOCKED UP!

Today was a day we've long awaited. Today the last of the lower floor windows arrived. Two still have temporary plywood as they await permanent glassbut all the holes are at long last filled. The good news is that as the Harold's contracting crew fastened the last window in place we have achieved official lockup.

The last batch of windows included the big round sets, front and rear as well as the front door set - fifteen windows and one door in all. They all look perfect and fit perfectly too. It took a while for Harold's crew to carefully align the many panes - up to six in each set. 

The Element Spray Foam crew has three or four more days to go before that big job is done. Then we can start in on the inside work required to finish the house. A good chunk of the day was also spent onsite with Roy from the cabinet shop. We surveyed each location cabinets are needed and in the next few days we will have our first draft of the cabinet plan. 

Things are coming together!
