Very busy, but with little to show

We are still very busy in the house these days. Lots is getting done but there is little to show. A freshly painted linen ceiling looks a lot like a primed white one. But Matt has been busy for days and days making sure the paint goes on perfectly. We are very pleased with the result! In a few more days the many colors on the walls will begin to go on and we'll have a LOT more to show you then.

Today was also the day when the Steve the sound guy came to locate the built-in speakers in the living room. Lots of discussion ensued as we tried to imagine where they would sound and look the best. We checked and double checked the locations of the sound proofed boxes built into the walls. The last thing we wanted was to cut a hole in the wrong spot.

With everything now figured out Steve will return tomorrow to do the final install.

Home again, home again...

This morning I was up super early and boarded the plane home from New York at last. It was good to teach the class there and real fun to see the BIG Apple (a first for me) but it sure felt good to see my beloved British Columbia mountains again.

The crew worked hard in my absence and accomplished plenty. The priming is now done through the house and the minor nicks and deficiencies in the drywall all patched up and sanded smooth. The next coat of paint will start first thing in the new week. As soon as I got in the door this afternoon we started discussing and making final decisions about the colors we would use through the house. I'll pick up the colored paint tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing the colors on the walls! Here's a shot of the living room with the primer finished. Thanks for a great job Matt!!

While I travelled I dreamed of and figured out exactly how we would create the crown molding trim through the living room and hallway. Janis and I will make the final decision about the profile early this week.

Sarah and Hailey were obviously busy in the time they spent in the house this week. They are applying the many coats of glaze to the tree stairway. It still has a ways to go but what they did looks spectacular! The layers of glaze really enhance the heavy woodgrain which we carved into the sculpted concrete. I'll be starting work on the LED lighting under the hand rail this coming week. I'll also be welding in the armature for the handrail through the staircase as well. Once that is in place we will sculpt the banister to look like a knarly old branch.

With each passing day we are getting ever more excited to finally move in. It is starting to feel real at last!

Stay tuned for more progress this coming week...

Living room progress.

The Boughen's removed their tools from the house today. They are off to Florida for a well earned vacation. They had made good progress on the wainscoting and trim in the house. In a few weeks they will be back to continue.

With the room empty of tools we could finally get an idea of how it will appear when it's all done. The top rail has yet to be installed as does the window trim but I can easily imagine how it will look. I love what I see!

While the Boughen boys are on vacation we'll do the painting on the walls and perhaps get a little primer on the wainscot.
