We made great progress on Vala’s U-pick tree/sign today. Yesterday we did the bare wood and then finished off the bark this morning. We employed a new technique to replicate an ancient apple tree. A textured roller was first used on the wet concrete and then we hand sculpted each piece of bark to separate them. The bark pieces are smaller at the top and ends of the branches and gradually get larger and thicker as we worked our way down the tree. The contrast between the rough bark and weathered wood we did yesterday looks fabulous. This piece should paint up really nice! Stay tuned….
