Our client had installed a plain looking fan in the ceiling and wanted a bit of an upgrade. After sketching a few bunch of ideas we decided the ceiling needed a splash of colour... leaf green to be exact. We created a vector file of the veins and parts of a leaf in EnRoute, then created reliefs of the bits and combined them before adding a subtle bitmap texture.
We routed one blade as a test before committing to the other four. For this project we used a piece of 1/2" thick 40 lbs. Precision Board.
Once the new blades were painted we removed the stock blades from the fan and bolted on the new colourful “leaves.” The fan spins evenly — without even a hint of a wobble — a benefit on machine precision!
