The last big piece for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch is their new main sign. It will be mounted to a hundred year old windmill and positioned at the entrance of the farm. The starting point of the sculpture is made from six layers of Precision Board high density urethane which is laminated over a sturdy welded steel frame. It’s nine inches thick (so far). With the board now glued up I will begin the hand carving and sculpting tomorrow. The sign measures just over eight feet tall.
Farmer Jack ready for paint
Peter was happy to polish off the scarecrow aka: Farmer Jack this afternoon. The sculpture looks fabulous! Peter will now head over to continue work on the Hazelnut Inn while we finish assembling and painting the last of the signs for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch. Most of the signs are now ready for final paint with only two more to be assembled.
The scarecrow
Peter has been very busy the last few days sculpting ‘Jack - the farmer’, a scarecrow mascot for the Harvest Barn sign. The scarecrow is extremely detailed from head to toe. There’s a few details yet to sculpt including his collar and cuffs, the top of his hat, and the tall stack of mini donuts!
