Before we got past the primer stage it was time to do one a test fit to make sure everything was good with the submersible wings, props and other protruding bits now finished. The fish fit into the booth nicely with adequate and balanced clearance on all sides. But it sat a little high and after some discussion we decided to drop it by about eight inches. This meant a little surgery was in order on the base. We measured and marked everything carefully and then Matt broke out the grinder for the cutting. In less than an hour the fish and stand were back together once more and much closer to the ground. Next week we’ll cut some decorative elements to replace the sea horses. It won’t take long to weld them in place. Then we’ll test fit one final time before the painting crew works their magic.
Juniper to the rescue!
With all those thousands of barnacles to sculpt on the submersible I simply had to recruit some help to get it done. Luckily Juniper visited the shop today and she was eager to do a little sculpting. It turns out she’s a natural. We finished the barnacles today!
Heading down!
The easy and quick way to build something is square and level. That’s not our way on any of our projects and the Hazelnut Inn is taking architectural storytelling to a whole new level. Peter is working his way around the North Star suite and is now on the north side of the building.. We are doing all of the high work first, while we have the snorkel lift. Anytime you have to go up in the air to do some work, the time it takes is multiplied by two or three at a minimum. It is certainly true on this project. The soffits of the large tower are now complete. Tomorrow Peter begins the sculpted plaster work on the walls. If the weather holds he will have the tower complete and be able to start the chimneys next week. It’s sure looking fine!
