The water tank for Kraay’s Family Farm will sit on top of a very tall building that sits on top of the slide hill. It will be a high-visibility landmark that is visible all around the farm and beyond. Almost every building on the farm is bright red with crisp white trim. The water tank will be the same, albeit with a little aging to suit the giant ‘historic’ waterwheel below. This week our painting crew will apply the final glazes to bring out the beautifully sculpted woodgrains. Stay tuned…
The journey of our fish
We dreamed up and fabricated this cute little fish submarine almost five years ago as the centrepiece for our trade show booth at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) EXPO which was held in Orlando, Florida. The display garnered our fourth-in-a-row first-place award for that massive international show. Since then the fish has been on display in the planter in front of our shop. Last week we tore out the overgrown shrubs in that planter which got us thinking about a new display for that area to go with the new plants that will soon grow there. The fish was much too nice not to display somewhere else. As luck would have it we were visited this week by the owners of DISTRICT 1881 - a wonderful upscale downtown development in Chilliwack. They saw the submarine and asked if we would consider displaying it in their courtyard for a time to help promote our Hazelnut Inn project. It sounded like a great idea, so we lifted the submarine out of the planter and brought it into the shop for a quick refresh and to build a circular metal fence around it. QR codes will be mounted to the boxes on the three fence posts so guests can instantly link to Hazelnut Inn when they pose for a selfie. When the sub returns to us later this summer it will be located at the front of our property and the plasma-cut steel dinosaur that currently lives there will be relocated.
Four more sleeps...
This afternoon, we got the wonderful news that our new Fastcut CNC plasma table will arrive next Tuesday. We are excited!! So much so that as we started getting its space ready this morning we decided to whip up and mount the sign for the wall behind where it will live. We’ll apply the rust patina next week so the new sign fits our decor perfectly. Only four more sleeps until it arrives…
