Keith and Neal have kept the sparks flying for weeks as they fabricated the many structural frames for the NEB’s wall (phase 2) project. The last giant frame was assembled and tacked together today. Tomorrow, the crew will finish off the last of the welds and mount the final piece to its pallet, which readies the frames for the lath work. The large structural frames are mounted to five custom steel pallets, complete with heavy-duty swivel wheels, so we can move them around easily as required for efficient shop operations.
First paint
After a busy morning of cleanup and preparation, it was time to begin painting the Under Hill at long last. The first primer coat will all have the same shade of tan, and then the crew will start getting creative with more colours on the second coat. The third coat will be even more innovative as the painting crew does the final blends before the glazing begins. In the meantime, Peter and Becke will start to make final selections of the ceramic tile, which needs to be ordered soon to be on hand when needed. It is an exciting time in the construction process. Stay tuned…
IAAPA EXPO coming soon
The IAAPA EXPO is the largest trade show in the world for our industry and is to be held in about a week in Florida. IAAPA stands for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. The massive show is a worldwide gathering place for those in this exciting business, with over 30,000 attendees and 1,200 vendors under one giant roof. We showed as a vendor for four years, from 2016 to 2019, and our display garnered four first-place Brass Ring Awards. I was also honoured to be a speaker at the 2018 conference. After a four-year absence, I’ll be heading down to Orlando to take in this year’s show. While I hope to touch base with many of our customers and acquaintances as I explore the show floor, I aim to gather information and discover the latest industry trends.
