HOW-TO? STEP THREE FINISHING THE ARMATURE

everyone+working

Since this was to be a workshop project I expected lots of help as I was working. And lots of help I got! The next step was to add the galvanized mesh, bulking out the armature in preparation for the actual sculpting. This is a job most people do not enjoy as it is rough on the hands with plenty of sharp edges. We keep plenty of bandaids handy. The mesh is tied to the pencil rod with rebar wire. We use special tools designed for the job which grip the wire and then trim it after twisting. It’s a job that looks easy but (like most things) takes some time and lots of practice to master.

Once the wire was all in place we glued and clamped the routed High Density Urethane signs into place over the structure. This was allowed to dry overnight. With these procedures completed it is starting to look a lot more line the concept drawing and will progress rapidly from this point.

Stay tuned for more progress soon...
