TONING THINGS DOWN

Dark Stain

With the addition of a second coat of glaze things toned down considerably. This color was a dark chocolate with a dash of metallic dark cherry mixed in for good measure. The woodgrain instantly acquired a richness and depth as I wiped off the excess, the lighter colors I had painted previously peeking through on the raised portions of the grain.

Things are looking pretty fine already and it is soon time to start work on the base colors of the dimensional pictorial. Before that I’ll first apply one more quick coat of the dark chocolate, a color officially called ‘nerd’ over the borders, edges and back of the sign just in case I drip as I work over the pictorial. Then I’ll mask off the bottom and have some fun with color.

It’s always nice when a plan comes together...
