The grandkids are really excited or Halloween tomorrow. They’ve been trying on costumes and can hardly wait to get some candy. They’ll be doing a scavenger hunt in our backyard. Part of our Halloween tradition is carving the pumpkins. Henry is old enough to decide on the theme of his pumpkins but still needs a little help to do the actual carving. We have developed a routine in the kitchen (and shop) that when the task involves a sharp tool grampa holds the knife and Henry holds my hand. He learns the motions while not putting himself in danger. You can bet that the whole time we are working he is instructing grampa on the proper way to do every cut. Henry’s art direction on this pumpkin included a very large spider on one side and a SCARY face on the other side. He was very proud of the result, absolutely sure it would terrify anyone who approaches our porch tomorrow night.
