Clever use of scale and colour!

This morning I had the chance to sit for a long while in the new Star Wars land at Disney World and study the land carefully from many angles. While everyone else around me was rushing to experience as many attractions as possible I instead quietly stared at the details both near and far. Most guests stopped briefly to snap a picture of the incredible, full sized Millennium Falcon and surrounding mountain scape, but I suspect few noticed the techniques that made it appear so impressive. The spires all taper dramatically as they rise which makes them appear much taller than they really are. The rock spires also rapidly diminish in scale as they recede in the background. The colouring too is really clever if you stop to look closely. The front rock work is brightly coloured (relatively) and as the rocks go back they are greyed and then blued to make then appear a long distance away - miles instead of mere feet. The more I looked from every angle, the more I was impressed for the builders were extremely clever and pulled off this illusion in a masterful way! The buildings employed these same techniques as well with the ‘distant’ towers fabricated at a much smaller scale, making the outpost city look much larger than it really was. It was awesome at every turn!
