I’ve been working for a few days on an important presentation for a video conference call. The international video call was scheduled for this morning. I got up early with a plan to go out to the studio, leisurely review my presentation one last time and then hook up for the meeting. Henry, now two, greeted me as I came down the hall and gave me a big hug. That is about the best way there is to start any morning. He had found a bottle of his older sister’s nail polish and he ever so politely asked me if he could paint my finger nails. He even said please. How could I possibly resist. My slightly revised plan was to have him paint two or three nails and then wipe it off on the way out to the shop. Henry took his time and did a great job on three of my finger nails but as he was ever so carefully putting the lid back on the bottle it fell in a spectacular fashion, splotching a very large area on the tile floor. It was cleanup time! With lots of scrubbing we managed to get everything clean and polished before grandma was the wiser but I was now definitely behind schedule and my bright red fingernails were very dry.
I rushed out to the studio and did a quick final review of my presentation. I made a few changes. I decided I would make new printed copy but of course my printer was suddenly out of paper. More paper was loaded in. Then the printer decided to run out of ink. Thankfully, I had plenty on hand and the cartridge changes went according to plan - except the blue which gave me a little difficulty. The new copy of my presentation was printed out and carefully collated with minutes to spare. I went out to the shop to remind the crew to keep the noise down while I was on my video conference. Grant laughingly asked me why one side of my face had a lot of bright blue splotches. I knew instantly it had come from the problem ink cartridge on the printer. I rushed to the washroom to get as much off as I could in the time remaining. While I was at it I scraped off as much bright red nail polish as I could manage in the remaining few seconds. Then it was back to my computer to calmly hook up for my scheduled video conference call. Thankfully, the hour long presentation went off without a hitch. If anyone noticed my slightly blue face or red fingernails they were polite enough to not mention it.
