Concrete tree with real leaves

It has taken a good while but the foliage on our driveway tree/post has really blossomed this year. It looks real because it is. Back when we first started doing theme work we used artificial foliage on the trees we made. In spring the vinyl leaves were found laying on the ground because of the hard winter. We used better quality product after that but found it also did not pass the test of time. We experimented with putting planters in the upper tree trunks but found the plants did not like the warm temperatures created by the concrete in the summer months. The watering also often caused effervescence (leaching of the lime out of the concrete) which stained our work. The ultimate solution was to plant a vine on the back side of our trees and train it to grow to the top of the tree and then bush out from there. This isn’t a quick solution but it is the best we’ve found thus far. For our driveway tree we selected a purple (Janis’ favourite colour) wisteria and this year it is full of blossoms… just as we planned.
