Tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day… for that is when we lift the rudder structure into place on the ship that protrudes from the Hazelnut Inn. It has been a very long time coming! Over the last week (between other jobs) I’ve been cutting, welding and grinding the many complex pieces for the rudder. There’s more than forty lineal feet of welds, forty-eight pieces of custom cut steel and thirty-four giant rivets in this piece. The massive boards that go between the giant steel bands will be sculpted using fibreglass reinforced concrete. The sign for the North Star suite will soon be mounted to the rudder. That beautiful sign has been finished and waiting for more than two years! As I often remind Peter, this kind of quality and detail doesn’t come easy and can’t be rushed!
