We’ve had a tractor since we bought our small acreage back in 2003. I’ve put more than a thousand hours in the seat, most often using the front end loader. One of the items that has long been on my bucket list is to learn to operate a backhoe. While I wouldn’t want to do the job professionally I just know it would be fun to have one to play with. Today, after much research and a whole lot of justifying the cost, we took delivery of a shiny new tractor, this time with a backhoe. The little Kubota isn’t large machine but with a little patience it can accomplish all we need to do on our property. For the very first time in my life I climbed into the seat and tried my hands at the controls a backhoe. It wasn’t very pretty or smooth at the start but within a short time I could begin to have the machine do what I wanted without hurting my brain thinking about how to work the controls. Over time I’m sure muscle memory will make things a whole lot easier and smoother. They say it takes 10,000 hours to master something new. I’ve got one hour in already. Just think of the fun I’m going to have with this new tool!
