It was time to give the new little tractor a workout as one of our friends wanted to get rid of six good sized trees as well as numerous shrubs. With only two hours practice on the new backhoe I was a little nervous about how i would do. I started slow and easy, digging out rows of boxwood shrubs before moving on to the larger plants. In just under four hours we filled two trucks and our dump trailer. All but a two of the shrubs came out well with all of their roots intact. The trees were fine. Then it was back to the Hazelnut Inn property to dig numerous holes and plop in the new greenery. By quitting time today our property looked much less like a construction site and much more like a beautiful garden. We’ll head back tomorrow morning for the last few apple trees which need a new home. Operating a backhoe is certainly a whole lot more fun and much, much faster than using a shovel!
