To create the giant drum and base for the Arctic Circle we have cut, fit and welded more than 6,000 lbs of steel. We’ve pulled well over a thousand feet of welding bead so far with a couple hundred feet of weld still to go. The project was an enjoyable challenge but no small task. We’ve now substantially completed the drum, stick and base. On Monday we will finish welding the outer weld on the skin and then flip the drum halves over to do the inside. We anticipate that on Tuesday we will remove the drum from the ship and begin work on the supports and braces.
