Inside every one of our fanciful creations is a carefully thought out structural framework. Our strict rule is that anything people can go into, over or under requires engineering. We, like everyone else, must adhere to a strict building code which differs greatly depending on where our projects are to be installed. Imagine walking into your local city building department and telling them you want to build a sixteen feet tall robot and photo opportunity. This type of request is a normal occurrence for us. We take it all into account when we begin our very first concept renderings. We have a long list of questions that need answering before we even put pencil to paper. What materials are we going to use? How will the unseen structure securely hold everything up? How will we lift, transport and secure this structure safely? We work with a wonderful local engineer and do our best to answer most of the questions before we contact him. We typically do a rough structure concept drawing to guide his efforts. His job is to carefully check our experienced guess with careful load calculations. He reviews our drawings and specs, adds notations and changes when necessary and then stamps the drawings which we pass on to our clients. They then get their engineers to review the drawings and calculations as necessary and pass the drawings on to the building authorities in their location. Once we get the approvals we then can build our structures and the final feature around this framework. If required, our engineer will do periodic checks as we build and then produce the necessary report to certify the work is up to standard and adheres to the engineered drawings. Our client’s engineer will produce the necessary drawings and specs for the footings and foundations and certify the on site construction. They will also do a final inspection after the installation of our feature and produce the final paperwork to satisfy the local authorities.
