I decided that a project as magical as a dichotomous dragon sign deserved some real 23K gold leaf. Gold leaf is always magical. As I painted the size on the raised letters I decided to up things one more little notch on the scale. I dug through our gold drawer and found our stash of variegated leaf. This leaf has more alloys in it and is treated with heat to give it a rainbow hue. Variegated leaf isn’t generally used out in the weather without clear coating but since this sign is for our indoor display it is perfectly OK without that. When the size had cured perfectly I laid the variegated leaf on first across the bottom of the lower letters and then finished off the top portion with regular 23K gold. It looked instantly cool! Tomorrow, we’ll finish painting the bracket and a few small details on the two-headed dragon. Then we can hoist it up to join the rest of our samples on the display wall. It will be a nice addition!
