The third (and last) pub sign of this series features a Galapagos tortoise. I’ve harboured this idea of a twisted tree as a sign bracket for some time and the tortoise seemed a natural to go with it. He leans precariously on a twisted cane which echoes the tree in a fun fashion. The name of the pub written on the sign with raised, bevelled lettering was a perfect fit. The twin blossoms (one on each side) on the little tree have a practical purpose, besides adding a splash of colour. They hide tiny LED lights to illuminate the 23K gold lettering. I’ve been collecting scores of photos of these wonderful creatures to serve as reference as I sculpt to make sure everything is perfect. This is going to be a ton of fun. Stay tuned…
