The building regulations required that we place a 3” fire hose connection front and centre in the exterior wall of the Hazelnut Inn. We weren’t allowed to cover or disguise it in any fashion. Even so, we wanted to make it disappear if we could. The solution was not to hide it but rather make it a feature. Brass fittings age nicely and turn dark as they do. Peter designed a large brick ring around the unsightly fitting. Cracked plasterwork filled the middle of the bricks. The fire connection is still perfectly noticeable and accessible but hiding in plain sight.
