We are currently beginning concept design on another top secret project. This one has extra challenges and so I called Peter to the design studio to help. We tossed ideas back and forth initially with both of us sketching madly, often on the same paper, as we discussed the possibilities. As is often the case, our ideas differed substantially at the start. But as we went forward, with give and take on both sides, the concept slowly came into focus. We were working with three main goals in mind for this project, which are often tough to reconcile… it had to have dramatic appeal, there was a fixed budget and it had to be a very fun project for us to build. Those first wild and fast scribbles which covered many sheets of paper were indeed very rough but plenty clear to our eyes. Our intense brainstorming session lasted about twenty minutes at most. Once we settled on the key elements of the project and had decided how we would tackle it I sat down to work on the details. Peter went to do other things while I drew but he will check in regularly to keep adding his ideas to the design. Those first rough sketches will serve as reference and inspiration for the job. When Peter checks in he will undoubtably suggest changes, some of which may require redrawing substantial areas of the concept. That’s perfectly OK by me, for together we come up with much better ideas than either of us could on our own. That’s teamwork at it’s best.
