Design central

Our creative studio is colourful and full of things that inspire us. There are no white walls or empty space. The room was designed around our desk. While most offices have a desk in the centre area of a room with the windows behind, we instead chose to build a large curved desk adjacent to some towering windows which look out onto a spectacular mountain vista. The view is inspiring without a doubt. The desk measures twenty-one feet long and is made of welded plate steel, securely anchored into the concrete wall so there are no legs to get in our way. Typically, the large desk is somewhat cluttered, piled high with reference books models and materials, and reams of sketching paper and notes scattered across it. Three computers typically sit on the desk. One, on the left, is to serve the files for the CNC router. The centre work station faces east with a large iMac which is my design computer, accompanied by an iPad which I use to sketch on. Peter works to my right with an iPad and laptop which he takes home with him each evening. The studio, which measures about six hundred square feet, is home to thousands of books and treasures. Every square inch of wall and shelf space is cluttered with drawings, models and souvenirs of our many adventures through the decades. It is a wonderful and creative space to dream up new ideas for future projects.
