One of the longest running projects we have is of course on our own property. Our industrial sized garbage bin is tucked behind some large steel doors which front a small hollow mountain on the edge of our driveway. On the backside of the mountain two more large doors open to our lawnmower and yard tool storage. A large faux tree sprouts out of the top and planters abound at various levels. The project was begun about seventeen years ago. The top portion was prefabricated in the shop, moved outside, stored for a couple of years before being hoisted onto the structure. It stayed that was for a while, then was lifted down while we moved the structure to the other side of the driveway. Work continued sporadically, between other paying projects, Peter’s house, our house, Becke’s house and then the Hazelnut Inn. It always seemed to be the last on the list. Three years ago we finished the bulk of the sculpted concrete and even got a little painting done. Then it languished once again. In the last weeks Becke and Grant have finished the base coats and the first of the glazing. There is a chance we may finish the painting if we get another week of warm weather… Just maybe.
