We use a variety of materials in our shop, depending on that works best and what makes sense. The evergreen tree that ‘grows’ at the base of the lighthouse has a structure of welded steel. Various sized pipes form the branches. The lower section of the tree is sculpted from fibreglass-reinforced-concrete. The beaches are sculpted using a two part epoxy ‘clay’. The final branches and needles will be fashioned from bits of a small artificial Christmas tree. Today, Grant mixed enough epoxy for the branches and the top section of the tree was ‘grafted’ into position. Once the painting is done we’ll add the rest of the branches. Stay tuned…
