No more looking back

Back when we first started our business, we stripped down an ancient and well used tent trailer to make a small flat deck. It was all we could afford at the time. Although it sort of worked, the little trailer proved to be woefully inadequate to haul our ever growing creations to our customers. Our solution was to add a second used axle to the trailer which sort of worked until we could upgrade to a larger and heavier duty flat deck car trailer. We overloaded that rig and our half ton truck for years. Our tools were locked inside a big, almost watertight, metal tool chest which we bolted to the deck of the trailer. A few years later we upgraded again to a box trailer for the tools, eventually adding a one ton truck and a second, larger trailer. When we moved to our current property and built our dream shop, the tools (at long last) had a proper home. We sold the big truck and downsized the trailers to simplify compliance to the complicated and expensive highway regulations. All of our fabrication was now done in our shop and it made sense to delegate the moving of larger projects to a hired truck rather than doing it ourselves. With proper storage in the shop we quickly figured out that it made much more sense to buy in bulk and have our supplies delivered rather than picking them up ourselves as we needed them. The two dump trailers were used much less frequently. The flat deck and box trailer haven’t turned a wheel in years. The other day I was doing some re-arranging in the yard which prompted a discussion about selling three of the four trailers we own. With current shortages everyone is dealing with and the extreme scarcity of used equipment it seemed like a good time to send them down the road to a new home. I made three phone calls and got two great offers within a few hours. Save for one dump trailer which will be used for yard chores, our trailering days are now behind us!
