Best of show

On my bookshelf is a dog-eared issue of a Signs of the Times Magazine from January, 1984. The old magazine features the 1983 International Sign Competition winners. I was still a beginner in the industry in those days with so much to learn. But as I drooled over the gorgeous work showcased on those glossy pages I made a promise to myself that some day I would be good enough to have our work featured in a future issue.

It was twelve years later, in 2005, before I worked up the courage to actually enter our work in Signs of the Times Annual international completion. We were overjoyed to place first in the Commercial Sign Systems category along with a honourable mention in the Electric Sign Systems category. Many, many more awards followed through the subsequent years for which were were always very grateful. However, one coveted category - Best of Show always eluded our grasp and the hope of that lofty prize has motivated us each year to try a little harder and perhaps do even better.

We were ecstatic to discover this year’s entry had, at last, (after sixteen years of trying) been awarded that lofty honour. Seeing Sprocket on the cover of Signs of the Times is a long held dream come true! As always, the honours are because of the hard work of our entire team. Each of our team members contributed in a large way to the giant piece. It was a delight to start with a well crafted logo designed by Ross Johnson Design. Ross and his team also did the onsite assembly of the robot.

Now we’ll roll up our sleeves to do even better! Stay tuned…
