Today, at last, was the day we sculpted the little hot rod. Matt and I also welded up the front spoked wheels and learned to install tires on them without the aid of a tire mounting machine. It took some effort, four large flathead screwdrivers, a large rubber mallet and some experimentation but we managed just fine - with a little sweat applied to the task. The end result was a fine looking hotrod that looks like it is leaping off the starting line of a drag race. There’s a little sculpting on the engine to complete before the painting process begins. Stay tuned…
Body work
We had a whole lot of fun sculpting the body of the tow truck today. When painted it will appear well used which mean we sculpted in the necessary rough rusty spots, dents and cracks. This truck will have a great deal of character by the time we are finished!
Cartoon car dealership
As I pulled up to the shop last night I had to laugh a little. It is starting to look a whole lot like an auto dealership for miniature cartoon cars. The truck we built as a sign was in the planter and our little parade jeep was beside the green VW with the two gas pumps in front of the doors. In the next few weeks two more vehicles, the 1932 hot rod and the beauty tow truck, will join the collection making it even more so.
