Freya's sign underway...

Freya’s Egg Spinner sign face is now routed and assembled. The steel brackets and internal welded steel frame are finished. Tomorrow, I’ll weld up the steel armature for the egg and chick and hopefully apply the first coat of sculpting epoxy. The beginnings of the other pieces bound for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch are also underway and will continue tomorrow. Stay tuned for more progress…

Freya's sign

The artwork we produce is often created in collaboration with our customers. When I was in Nebraska, we decided to make three more signs and features for Vala’s Pumpkin Patch by summer’s end. One of the signs was for a new ride which they had dubbed Freya’s Egg Spinner. Freya is eight years old and the daughter of one of the farm owners. I was at their house for dinner one evening and while there I got to sit down with the ride’s namesake, Freya. Together we designed the sign. The font we used for her name is custom, patterned after her signature. Freya’s favourite colour is teal so we had to use that on the larger letters. Her second favourite colour is orange and that too was incorporated into the sign. After a quick search online we located a picture of a chick and the broken egg reminded Freya of the ride bucket that guests would spin in as they rode. We’ll sculpt a 3D version of that atop the sign. Freya decided the background of the sign would feature a brown woodgrain as a background. We began work on the sign today and I know Freya will be keeping a close eye on our progress, reading the posts as they are uploaded. Stay tuned for more pics in the coming days…

Lolo's sign is home at last

We first drew up the sign for Lolo’s Fudgery at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch more than four years ago. They loved it from the start. Each year it would come up for consideration as we drew up the wish list of projects we would build for them. Sadly, other priorities would bump it from the list each year to hopefully be included the next time around. This year the sign finally rose to the top of the pile and we finally got the go-ahead to build it. They had the concrete pad poured and the sign installed in minutes. It looked right at home and with a little landscaping, it will look like it has been there forever. Some things are worth waiting for…
