Every square inch of the ceiling and walls will be hand-carved with exquisite details. Giant rocks still out from the dirt ceiling. The twisted roots of the massive tree on the roof grow through the ceiling into the living space below. As good as it is starting to appear now, it will all be pure magic when our painters do their thing to add rich colours and glazes. Stay tuned to watch it happen…
More ceiling progress
Pictures don’t begin to show the complexity of the spectacular interior of the Under Hill suite. Each day, the sculpting crew finished a new section. Today, they sculpted the gnarly woodgrain into the two giant beams that appear to support the ceiling over the king-sized bed. Yet to be added are the vertical beams that frame the headboard and a forked tree branch at the foot of the bed. It is coming together pretty well. Stay tuned…
Counter in
Peter has been working on the kitchenette this past week. He cut and welded up the steel cabinet, fastened it into place and then cut and fit the plywood forms to make it ready to cast the concrete countertops. The counter is stepped to allow the sink to be wheelchair accessible and fit a fridge underneath. It didn’t take long to do up a special mix of fibreglass-reinforced concrete. By the end of the day, it was cured enough to pull the side forms. With this work complete, we are ready to start sculpting the giant wood beams that will frame this area. Stay tuned…
