Save for our welders, the tool we use most often in the shop is our FastCut CNC plasma cutter. We are busy fabricating two more weathervane crows for the Kraay Family Farm in Alberta, which means we need hundreds of plasma-cut steel features to shape and weld into place. Keith kept the machine busy today, cutting multiple sheets of steel plate while I began fitting and welding the feathers into place. I hope that within a day or two, this crow will be finished, and then I can begin the second. Stay tuned…
Colour on the barn chandelier
The Kraay Family Farm barn chandelier is quickly getting its base colours as Tony is laying on the coats of paint. The crow’s feet were also added today. Tomorrow, the painting crew will start on the blends. Our goal is to have this piece finished by the end of next week. Stay tuned…
First interior castle concrete sculpting!
It was another landmark day at the Hazelnut Inn as the first concrete sculpting on the interior of the Copper Crown began. Matt troweled and sculpted the concrete onto the ‘wooden’ ring beam of the tower over the bedroom. The painted portion of the upper tower was prefabricated in the shop years ago as we assembled the building structure. Now, it is time to finish the rest of the suite. This is the view guests will enjoy as they lay in the king-sized bed. Soon, we’ll begin fabricating an elegant, custom-made chandelier to hang in the tower space. Tomorrow, Matt will start on the diagonal beams; by the end of the week, we might have the ceiling sculpted. Stay tuned…
