SHMYER’S DELIGHT

Sketch

Over the years I have earned the reputation of being something of a story teller. It’s a title I defend proudly for I believe every grampa should be able to tell a good and entertaining story.

A while back I was telling a great story to my niece and Janis laughingly muttered under her breath that I was a BIG fat liar. My niece asked her to repeat her comment and my daughter chimed in that it rhymed with shmyer. Ever since then I have earned the nickname of shmyer - which I translate to mean ‘WONDERFUL STORY TELLER.”

This little tug boat was done as a duplicate piece of a name plaque for a good friend from Sweden more than a year ago. Henry had attended a couple of our Sign Magic Workshops. It was my intention to build a sign around it ‘when I found the time.’ Challenge 2010 was just the push I needed. Like so many of my ideas, the first sketch was done while we relaxed in the evening.

The sign didn’t take long to fabricate and paint, and like the other CHALLENGE projects it was done between other paying projects in the shop. And true to my story telling reputation the photo was taken late at night in my studio and then combined with another wonderful photo I had taken off my back porch a few days previous. :)
