Framed!

We pushed the hot rod into the shop on Friday. I spent a little time unbolting and removing the old body and fenders while there was some help around for the heavy lifting. Today, after a few chores and a trip to town it was time to get busy on the frame. The first order of business was to remove everything that was no longer needed and there was a fair amount of things that fell into that category. Then it was time for a thorough inspection and some serious measuring. I discovered the motor and transmission mounts that we had fabricated thirty years ago were never fully completed and the motor was in fact just resting in the frame. Our chain lift hoisted the V6 motor out of the way while I cut off the old items and built some new custom mounts which raised the motor five inches and brought it forward eight inches. The existing transmission mount was easily modified with a custom bracket. The exhaust system was removed as the car will get some new hand made headers and pipes in the style of the old speedsters. By the end of my fun workday the frame was ready for the new body. Tomorrow it will be bolted permanently in place at last. Stay tuned…
