Little Henry is often my shadow these days and as he rapidly approaches the age of two (next week) he is starting to get fiercely independent at times. Whenever something needs to be done he says ‘me do’ which means I need to patiently watch while he gives it a try. After some serious effort and sometimes a little frustration, Henry goes to the fallback position of ‘grampa help’. I do my best to help as little as possible while he does the task in order to build his skills and confidence. While it would be much simpler, efficient and faster to do the task by myself I know from years of experience that it is best to willingly and cheerfully do things together. The resulting JOY, each and every time, is well worth the effort.
