The news regarding local flooding and the gradual dropping of the water levels in effected areas is improving at long last. Southern British Columbia has endured three major storms over the last two weeks. These storms dumped more than two feet of rain in the area. The TransCanada highway is opening this afternoon and other roads to the east are gradually going the same. In our little town of Yarrow many people have come together to help each other. I’ve heard so many wonderful stories which are heart warming in the midst of great suffering and damage. Community spirit is evident in other ways as well. Word has passed around that those not affected by the flooding turn on their Christmas lights early this year to add some brightness and cheer to the community. We dusted off our giant, ten foot wide wreath, replaced some burnt out bulbs, hung it in place and powered it up to do our small part.
