1960's eye candy

We started work on a new sign for Syl’s Mini Golf and Drive-Inn today. The 1960’s style sign will be fabricated from welded steel and then powder coated. The first order of business was to create the cut files for the job. While the sign looks very simple at first glance the reality is that it is quite complex. The sign will be dimensional and has to break down for the powder coating process. The bulk of the many hundreds of stainless steel fasteners will be hidden. This means all of the pieces have to fit together perfectly. Using a CAD program to design and CNC plasma cutting makes it a whole lot easier than the old ways but there was still plenty of head scratching to plan it out. While there are still a number of files to draw out, the first thirty-five pieces I designed today will give us a good start. I’ll be keeping the plasma cutter going hard tomorrow.
