Linking the colours

A good friend in the business, Cosmic Ray Renooy, or Coz as we call him, taught me the importance of using one colour as a link through a complex sign project. I’ve put that principle to use on the Rowdy Raven sign. In fact, I’ve done it multiple times to good effect. The yellow hues are found in the top of the sign, and the bird’s beak and feet. The final dark brown/black glaze will be used throughout the sign to tie it all together. I’ve decided to use the same blue/dark glaze on the bracket when I get to that part of the project. Painting and glazing the wood was quite the involved process as I worked around all of the protrusions and over the deeply routed lettering. There were three coats of paint plus three glazes which meant I painted the wood six times in all. This little project is definitely starting to come together nicely. There are still some areas that will get more glazing and then it will be time for some 23K gold leaf ono the letters. Stay tuned…
