The eyes have it

When we do a creature or person sculpt the success or failure depends largely on the eyes to give it life. The sculpt is important but the paint is also critical. The eyes are most often the last thing to be completed. I did the final glazing on the tortoise this afternoon, followed by some dry brushing of the highlights. Then it was time for the eyes. I used a high powered heat gun to speed things along between coats of paint. The choices were limitless but I opted for a medium metallic blue for the colour. Since he was painted primarily in warm tones the cool blue was a really nice contrast. A dark pupil and a dot of white for the highlight finished him off in an instant. Now it is on to finishing off the tree and leaves before I work on the sign below. Stay tuned…
