In our shop we absolutely LOVE texture of all kinds. Texture adds magic to everything we do. It also makes our painting techniques much easier to pull off. On our signs this involves woodgrains most often although we can easily produce just about any texture imaginable. We have designed custom bitmaps which are used by the software (EnRoute Pro) to create the CNC routing files. These files are sent to our Multicam which does a fabulous job reproducing those woodgrain textures. Once the signs are assembled with the structural frames embedded inside, it’s time to bring that woodgrain down over the edges of the signs. I do this by hand using an air-powered die grinder. It is a relatively quick process. This sign measured 4’ x 8’ x 1.5” thick. Sculpting the edges and sides took me about an hour… but what a difference that hour made! This is going to look fabulous when it is painted!
