Robot skeleton

The structural steel skeleton for the upper half of ‘Sprocket’ the robot is now complete which means we can move on to the fun part - shaping the armature with pencil rod. This is done freehand, by eye and the challenge is to get both sides to be roughly the same when we are done. Hundreds of lengths of 1/4” pencil rod are shaped by hand and then welded into place to form a sturdy steel grid. Galvanized lath will then be carefully shaped and tied to this structure before we move on to the sculpted concrete skin. It won’t be long until this looks like a robot. Stay tuned…
