With the stair stringers now complete it was time to begin fabricating of the under structures for the two staircase landings. We did lots of measuring, calculating and checking. Then I designed the cutting files on the computer and sent them to our trusty MultiCam CNC plasma cutter. Matt loaded the 1/4” steel plate and sparks flew. We welded the sub-assemblies on our work benches where we could be comfortable and efficient, effectively making I-beams for the custom supports. We then welded them to the heavy steel structure, making sure everything was perfectly lined up and level. Checker plate decks will be welded to these new supports. Tomorrow, we’ll finish off the supports for the deck and begin fabricating the stair support assemblies. Stay tuned…
