On Saturday, as I was mowing the lawn I took notice of the tired, old golf cart snuggled under a tree in the bone yard out back of the shop. The golf cart has been languishing there for quite a number of years. Henry noticed it a few weeks ago and came to ask me if I could get it going. The Yarrow Day’s parade is in eleven days and Henry and I are booked to enter the parade this year. Henry is extremely excited about tossing candy to all the kids along the parade route. We considered cobbling together a quick parade float and pulling it with the tractor. We also talked of doing the parade in grampa’s Jeep pulling a trailer with something on it. The little Jeep was also a possibility but we used that for two years running and a fresh idea would be so much better. Before I made a final decision I decided to pull the old golf cart out of the weeds to see if it would even run. Once I went through all of the trouble of moving it to the shop I decided to rip the tired old body off. It would give me better access to the mechanical parts. Our neighbour who is a mechanic heard all of the commotion and racket and came to investigate. He got the machine to fire pretty quick. A little cleaning, a new battery and some fresh gasoline made it run great! One thing led to another and by Sunday afternoon I was welding up a storm, creating the framework for a mid-thirties roadster. Today, Matt wired the frame while I finished the welding on the armature. We even got an initial start on the first coat of sculpting epoxy. There is still a whole lot to finish in the next ten days but there is no worry, for tomorrow four year old Henry is coming in to give us a hand. He should be pretty excited to see his new ride and he will pick the colour we’ll be painting it. Stay tuned…
