It is always a great thing when we make unexpected progress on the work in our shop. Today was the day the many pieces that are going to Vala’s Pumpkin Farm in Nebraska were loaded into the transport truck. That work went far faster than we anticipated. The four giant pallets of features were loaded without incident and we even had two inches of space left in the truck when we were done. That quick progress allowed us to make great speed on the attaching of the lath to the giant log. When Peter arrived he decided (with Matt’s encouragement) to start applying the fibreglass reinforced concrete to the sculpture while I finished attaching the lath. Grant worked his heart out mixing the copious amounts of concrete we needed for the task as we needed an extra thick layer of mud to allow us to sculpt the ‘gnarly’ woodgrains we desired. It was full speed ahead from there. The plan was ambitious without a doubt but we managed to finish the sculpting and cleanup with a little time to relax before our regular quitting time. Tomorrow, another busy schedule is planned which will allow us to finish sculpting the tree and perhaps the small dragon head as well. Stay tuned…
