I finished the submarine sign this morning, adding the last of the glazes and patinas to properly age the sign. It was great fun to pull out all the stops as I worked on this little piece.

The end result is a project that fully lives up to the vision I first had in my head as I scribbled the rough concept into my sketchbook so long ago. The sign measures about 44” wide x 52” tall and is about 24” deep.

It’s all hand painted with a brush, using water-based acrylic paints to ensure a long lasting finish. Once the base coats were done I mixed up some glazes to add age and a final bit of texture to the sign. A little dry brush added highlights where necessary. The end result is a sign I proudly show in the portfolio!
