It’s always satisfying to put the last touches on a sign and call the client to let them know their wait is over. This sign proved to be a little more complex and challenging than I had imagined. But then again each project seems to get that way as we get carried away with the process of crafting them. The hardest ones are also the most satisfying too.
This sign is definitely dimensional with it being a foot thick to the tip of the llama’s nose. Painting the sign was the most labor intensive step as we added layer after layer of glaze to build up the rich colors. I certainly didn’t want tp go too far too fast or we would have had to start over. My daughter Rebecca was in charge of picking the final colors for she is so good at that job. We ended up mixing all custom colors - a little of this - a little of that until just the right hue was blended. The end result is an animal you want to reach out and give a friendly pat to.
