Tucked away on one of my shelves in my studio is the first sign magazine I ever bought... way back in the late 70’s. It was the annual contest issue of that year. The magazine is dog-eared and worn. I paged through it many,many times through the years, drooling over the awesome award winning signs pictured there. I remember promising myself that one day our work would be good enough to appear on those pages.
In 2005 I worked up the courage to finally enter some work in one of those contests. Our work would be pitted up against the very best designers and sign fabricators from across Canada and around the world. We were more than a little honored to receive a first place award in the category of ‘Best Sign Systems’ that year. In the last six years we have garnered fourteen first place awards, one second place, an honorable mention, and three cover stories featuring our work along with numerous sign articles in the trade magazines around the world.
Today I was pleased to receive notification of two more national awards for two pieces which were created as samples for our showroom. After these many years of having fun while dreaming up and making our creations I suppose we have achieved what I wished for all those years ago. Although the shelves and walls sport many prestigious awards I’m not nearly ready to think I know it all. Many days I feel as if I have really only barely begun. Just imagine what I will be able to come up with tomorrow...
